Local 4-H programs celebrate Oct. 5-11

More than six million young people across the country will be celebrating National 4-H Week from Oct. 5-11.

The 4-H program is the largest youth development organization in the world, and has a significant impact on young people that are affiliated with it. According to research, participants of the program are nearly four times to contribute to their communities, and twice as likely to pursue healthy behaviors and engage in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) programs.

In Charles City, 375 youth, 10 adult volunteers, and two youth volunteers are involved in 4-H. The youth in Charles City have participated in Junior 4-H camp, in-school programming, and a nutrition program held by the parks and recreation department’s summer camp program.

In New Kent, more than 401 youth, 54 adult volunteers, and 18 youth volunteers are involved in 4-H. The youth in New Kent have participated in Junior 4-H camp, community clubs, and in-school programming.
