CC grand jury indicts four
Two Henrico County men who were involved in a shooting near Charles City’s old elementary school have been formally indicted by a Charles City Circuit Court grand jury.
Joquan W. Hawkins, 20, of 2 West Gerald Street, and Jege L. Jefferson, 19, of the 6400 block of Blossom View Lane, received the indictments as a result of an incident last Sept. 11.
According to police reports, Justin Brown, 18, of Charles City, received multiple gunshot wounds to the chest as a result of an argument that stemmed from a conversation on a social network site.
Hawkins received most of the charges. He’s charged with one count of aggravated malicious wounding, two counts of use of a firearm to commit a felony, and four counts of firing into an occupied vehicle. Jefferson was indicted as an accessory to malicious wounding.
Hawkins is scheduled to appear in court on Feb. 1, while Jefferson will appear on Feb. 22.
The grand jury also indicted two individuals who attempted to steal copper from a Dominion Virginia Power substation on Chambers Road.
William McKendrie Jeffries Jr., 41, of 18 North Ivy Road, Highland Springs, and Dee Marie Loving, 35, of 204 Huntsman Road, Sandston, were indicted on one count each of possession of burglary tools, intent to destroy public utilities, misdemeanor trespassing, and misdemeanor larceny.
According to the indictments, Jeffries and Loving were at the substation on Oct. 22 in an attempt to steal wiring. A deputy in the vicinity noticed their vehicle pull into the station and observed the couple attempting to break in. When the deputy approached, the couple took off, but were later apprehended. The duo also faces similar charges in other jurisdictions.
