Father and son team indicted in Charles City Circuit Court
A father and son duo received formal indictments during Sept. 3 Charles City Circuit Court proceedings.
David Yates Sr., 44, and David Yates Jr., 22, both of 4503 Rocking Horse Lane, Charles City, received multiple indictments from a Charles City grand jury.
Both men were charged with one count of grand larceny, burglary, and misdemeanor destruction of property stemming from a Jan. 6 incident where police witnessed the duo breaking into the Dominion Power substation on Chambers Road. Yates Sr. also received indictments for separate offenses stemming from home break-ins. Those charges include an additional burglary and grand larceny charge, possession of burglary tools, two petty larcenies, and possession of marijuana. Yates Jr. received an additional charge of petty larceny from a Feb. 28 incident where he allegedly stole an engine.
Yates Sr.’s girlfriend, Deborah Ann Kaston, 43, also of 4503 Rocking Horse Lane, received an indictment on perjury. Allegedly, Kaston lied while testifying on July 7 in an effort to protect Yates Sr.
In an unrelated matter, Cornelius James Carey, 57, of 106 Powhatan Drive, Williamsburg, received one indictment of contract fraud. The alleged offense occurred on Feb. 6, 2012.
