New Kent High School student collapses on bus, flown by helicopter to Richmond hospital

A New Kent High School student, identified only as a sophomore girl, collapsed this afternoon after boarding a school bus at the school.

According to a source close to the matter, the girl became unresponsive and was not breathing after collapsing. A school resource officer administered CPR and a portable defibrillator (AED) was utilized until paramedics arrived on scene. The girl reportedly was stabilized and breathing on her own before being transported by medical evacuation helicopter to VCU Medical Center in Richmond.

The girl’s name has not been released. No other details have been made available at this time.
