A Quinton woman was taken into custody after information concerning a theft was received during a sheriff’s investigation in New Kent.

On Apr. 10, New Kent Deputy Gerry Simpson arrested Samantha N. Rigdon, 20, of the 9000 block of Shewbury Drive, Quinton, on one count each of grand larceny and intent to sell stolen property. Rigdon allegedly stole jewelry from an address on Old Church Road on March 15. She was being held without bond pending an April 15 court appearance.

In an unrelated situation, a Charles City man is charged with driving after being declared a habitual offender and other charges.

Floyd Lee Atkins, 46, of the 8300 block of Old Cemetary Road, was arrested on Apr. 10 by Sgt. Brandon Jenkins on one count each of driving as a habitual offender, DUI (2nd offense within 5 to 10 years), and consuming alcohol while driving.

According to the incident report, Jenkins located a vehicle on the shoulder of Route 60 (Pocahontas Trail) near Route 106 (Emmaus Church Road). The deputy conducted a sobriety test based on his observations and later arrested Atkins for driving under the influence. A background check revealed Atkins is a habitual offender.

Atkins was being held at Henrico Jail East on no bond pending an April 15 court appearance.
