Charles City supervisor Floyd Miles Sr. announced his candidacy for the vacated spot for the 74th district seat.

The seat, now vacated by Joe Morrissey, will be filled in a special election on Jan. 13. Miles is hoping to receive the nod from the Democratic party and constituents from the district that covers Charles City, parts of Richmond, and parts of Henrico County.

“I have held the position before and I think that I have the experience,” Miles said, speaking on his tenure from 2002 to 2006. “I can hit the ground running to represent the district.

“It’s not going to be time for a learning curve,” he added. “I know the procedure and I feel I’m the best candidate for the position. I’m hoping that people will come out to vote for me.

The Democratic party expects to announce its representative on Dec. 22.
