VDOT to replace Herring Creek Bridge in Charles City
Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) will begin replacing the Herring Creek Bridge on Route 5 (John Tyler Memorial Highway) in Charles City on Jan. 5.
During the replacement, Route 5 will be restricted to one 12-foot lane at the bridge. Additionally, a temporary traffic signal has been installed, as well as speed reduced to 35 miles per hour. Drivers can expect delays during peak hours.
Oversized vehicles and those who choose to avoid delays are advised to use the following detour:
Eastbound Route 5- Take Barnetts Road (Route 609) north to Cattail Road (Route 650) east to Roxbury Road (Route 106) and return south back to John Tyler Memorial Highway (Route 5 East).
Westbound Route 5- Take Roxbury Road (Route 106) north to Cattail Road (route 650 west) to Barnetts Road (Route 609) south back to John Tyler Memorial Highway (Route 5 West).
The bridge’s replacement is expected to be completed by summer 2015.
