Fire contained in New Kent

A fire erupted at the 9200 block of S. Courthouse Road in New Kent shortly before midnight on Feb. 9. Fire chief Rick Opett said the fire destroyed one structure, but crews were able to save a second structure. Both buildings were unoccupied dwellings at the time of the fire. Mutual aid from West Point and Charles City assisted in extinguishing the flames. Opett said the cause of the fire is under investigation.
