Accident on Interstate 64 claims life of Richmond man

A Richmond man is dead after his vehicle crashed on Interstate 64 in New Kent.

Anthony K. Purter, 46, died at the scene of the crash shortly after 12 p.m. on March 8. According to the police report, a 1999 Mercury Mountaineer was traveling westbound on Interstate 64 when it ran off the right side of the road at the 220 mile marker and struck several trees.

Purter was wearing a seatbelt when state police troopers arrived. Speed and alcohol are not considered factors in the crash. The crash remains under investigation.
