Multi-county burglary ring duo indicted in Charles City
Two men who were involved in a multi-county burglary ring that terrorized four jurisdictions have now received indictments for crimes allegedly committed in Charles City.
A grand jury returned true bills of indictment on William Lawrence Paige, 52, of the 1300 block of Burma Court, Richmond, and Benjamin Lee Potter, 37, of the 9000 block of Horse Castle Court, Glen Allen, during Tuesday morning Charles City Circuit Court proceedings.
According to the indictment, the duo allegedly burglarized the home of Tiffany Sizemore as a part of their multi-county burglary spree on January 15. From Sizemore’s home, hunting apparel valued at more than $200 was stolen. Potter is also charged in another incident where he allegedly stole chainsaws, a Stihl backpack blower, and an edge line trimmer from the home of Michael Sullivan.
Potter was indicted on two counts of grand larceny, one count of burglary, and one count of possession of stolen property. Paige is being charged with one count each of burglary, possession of stolen property, and grand larceny. Both men are currently serving four year terms from convictions in New Kent Circuit Court and are currently being investigated on federal charges for transporting firearms.
Other indictments certified by the grand jury are:
–Adam Lawrence Alspaugh, 28, of the 3300 block of Chestnut Hill, Williamsburg, on one count of firearm larceny. Alspaugh allegedly stole a firearm belonging to Richard Emerson on March 25.
–Kelly Marie Fuqua, 29, of Gloucester Point, on one count of felony destruction of property. Fuqua allegedly drove through a cornfield, destroying a number of valuable crops that totaled more than $1,000 worth of damage.
–Jason Richard Hall, 30, of the 10000 block of Ironwood Road, Hopewell, on DUI (third offense). According to the indictment, a Charles City deputy noticed a vehicle parked at the intersection of Roxbury Road (Route 106) and Harrison Point Road with a driver inside on Apr. 17. The deputy sensed an odor coming from the vehicle upon inquiring the driver’s status of why he was sleep. The alleged driver, Hall, was arrested after an investigation.
–Nicholas Laddie Otey, 37, of the 9400 block of Barnetts Road, Chares City, on one count of burglary. Last Jan. 8, Otey allegedly impersonated a police officer and entered the home of Mauntio Ortiz.
–Warren Arturo Smith, 37, of the 8500 block of Lewis Tyler Lane, Charles City, on two counts of abduction. Smith allegedly held a woman against her free will last Nov. 14.
