Porter elevated to acting principal at Charles City Elementary School
Angela Porter has been appointed as acting principal of Charles City Elementary school after the resignation of former principal Latonia Anderson.
Anderson resigned effective Sept. 4 to assume new duties in Petersburg Public Schools as coordinator of professional development and curriculum. She has spent the last seven years as an administrator at Charles City Elementary School, including the last three as principal.
“It is with a heavy heart that I leave a place that has meant so much to me,” Anderson said in a press release. “I am truly honored to serve as principal and assistant principal of Charles City Elementary School.”
Porter will take over the duties as acting principal of the elementary school. She has spent the last four years serving as the assistant principal for Charles City Elementary. Prior to coming to Charles City Public Schools, she served as a special education teacher in Richmond City and Henrico County Public schools since 1993.
“Growing our leadership in Charles City Public Schools is very important and we greatly appreciate Ms. Porter’s desire to keep continuity as she assumes the top position at Charles City Elementary School,” said school board chairwoman Helen Payne-Jones. “We wish Ms. Anderson the best as she starts a new chapter in her professional career.”
A search has begun for an acting assistant principal position in Charles City Elementary school. A recommendation is expected to be presented to the county’s school board at the Sept. 15 regular meeting.
