A North Carolina man who stole a car in 2011 admitted to the crime during Charles City Circuit Court on Sept. 25 Michael James McCord, 28, accepted a plea agreement to one count of grand larceny of an automobile during Friday morning proceedings.

In a summary of evidence provided by Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Tyler, on Dec. 4, 2011, Rebecca Meadows heard her truck start during the night hours. When she looked outside, she witnessed the car driving away. Charles City deputies later found the vehicle after it had crashed, discovering blood inside. A DNA analysis was run, with a match coming back to McCord.

Under the plea agreement, McCord received a 10-year jail sentence with eight years and eight months suspended (active term of one year, four months to serve). He must also pay $500 in restitution.

In other circuit court proceedings:

–Adam Lawrence Alspaugh, 28, of the 3300 block of Chestnut Hill Court, Williamsburg, accepted a plea agreement and admitted guilt to one count of firearm larceny.

In a summary of evidence, on March 25 of this year, Alspaugh and another person spent the night with Richard Emerson on Emerson’s property. The following morning, Emerson discovered firearms were missing from his home. An investigation revealed the defendant had sold one of the weapons, a rifle, in Hampton. Alspaugh was arrested and admitted in court to the crime.

The plea deal calls for a 20-year sentence, with all but nine months suspended. The defendant must also pay $400 in restitution.

–Michael Lee Wallace, 43, of the 11000 block of Canora Lane, Providence Forge, accepted a plea deal and entered guilty pleas to two amended charges of possession of cocaine (originally distribution of cocaine-third offense).

In a summary of evidence, on Aug. 15, 2014, an undercover informant bought cocaine from Wallace at his home. Formal sentencing for the defendant is Dec. 18, but sentencing guidelines recommend a term of incarceration ranging from 13-31 months.
