New Kent boards convene to address 2015-16 CIP, budget
In order to understand viewpoints and discuss strategies for the upcoming budget season, members from New Kent’s School Board and the county’s Board of Supervisors met during a joint session Wednesday evening to grasp the task of addressing Capital Improvement Plans (CIP). Evaluating the upcoming budget and future goals, each side had an opportunity to explain its stance during the hour and a half long meeting. Notification by alert truck driver leads police in New Kent to alleged kidnappers, victim; FBI handling case, but withholding comment
An alert tractor-trailer driver at a New Kent County truck stop is being credited with saving a young woman from the clutches of a man and woman who are now in police custody facing possible kidnapping and other charges. Authorities, meanwhile, are being closed mouth concerning details. State police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said the matter has been turned over to the FBI. North Carolina man faces charges following high-speed chase in New Kent
A North Carolina man has incurred a lengthy list of charges after a police pursuit that began in New Kent County at speeds over 100 miles per hour ended with his arrest near Richmond International Airport in Henrico County. Todd Michael Bowers, 43, of the 1100 block of Weeksville Road in Weeksville, N.C., faces one count each of felony eluding, narcotics possession, marijuana possession, driving under the influence, and refusal to submit to a blood/breath test. Man accepts plea deal in NK Circuit Court after assault in Pilot
A man who assaulted his former girlfriend at the Pilot Travel Center in the Talleysville area of New Kent accepted a plea agreement during Monday afternoon New Kent Circuit Court proceedings. Xavier Tyler Slayton, 20 (address unlisted), entered guilty pleas to one amended charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct (originally abduction) and one charge of misdemeanor assault and battery. In a summary of evidence, last June 26, Slayton and his former girlfriend were traveling from Richmond to Norfolk. High speed chase in New Kent leads to Amherst man’s arrest
An Amherst County man has turned himself in as a result of a high speed chase on Jan. 2 that spanned New Kent and Henrico County. Carl B. Viar, 25, surrendered to Virginia State Police on Jan. 3 without incident. According to the police report, a Virginia State Trooper pulled over a 2006 Ford truck on Interstate 64 at mile marker 217 in New Kent for speeding 100 miles per hour in a posted 70 miles per hour zone. Charles City landfill recognized for wildlife habitat program
Waste Management’s Charles City County Landfill was honored at the Wildlife Habitat Council’s 26th Annual Symposium for its achievements in protecting and enhancing wildlife habitat.
