An alert tractor-trailer driver at a New Kent County truck stop is being credited with saving a young woman from the clutches of a man and woman who are now in police custody facing possible kidnapping and other charges. A North Carolina man has incurred a lengthy list of charges after a police pursuit that began in New Kent County at speeds over 100 miles per hour ended with his arrest near Richmond International Airport in Henrico County. A man who assaulted his former girlfriend at the Pilot Travel Center in the Talleysville area of New Kent accepted a plea agreement during Monday afternoon New Kent Circuit Court proceedings. Xavier Tyler Slayton, 20 (address unlisted), entered guilty pleas to one amended charge of misdemeanor disorderly conduct (originally abduction) and one charge of misdemeanor assault and battery. An Amherst County man has turned himself in as a result of a high speed chase on Jan. 2 that spanned New Kent and Henrico County. Carl B. Viar, 25, surrendered to Virginia State Police on Jan. 3 without incident. According to the police report, a Virginia State Trooper pulled over a 2006 Ford truck on Interstate 64 at mile marker 217 in New Kent for speeding 100 miles per hour in a posted 70 miles per hour zone.
