A Lanexa man accepted a plea deal during July 25 morning proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court to accepting stolen money.

Richard Gene Wray Jr., 40, of the 3200 block of Wahrani Lane, entered a guilty plea to one count of receiving stolen goods.

In a summary of evidence provided by Assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Del Rossi, from the end of January to the middle of February of this year, Wray encouraged Olivia Ilch, who was employed at Aspen Burger, to steal money and bring it to him. The defendant admitted that he encouraged Ilch to perform the alleged crime.

Under the agreement, Wray received a 10-year sentence with all time suspended. Ilch currently has charges pending in New Kent General District Court.

In an unrelated case, a Charles City man will serve 10 days in jail after violating terms of the First Offender program.

Tyler Jordan Gilliam, 24, of the 8400 block of Kips Creek, was placed in the program as part of a guilty plea in Nov. 2015. Through a proffer by defense attorney Todd Duval, Gilliam had two classes remaining in the program but placed his job ahead of the court order triggering the violation.

Judge B. Elliott Bondurant elected to keep the defendant in the first offender program, but handed down a 10-day sentence for contempt of court. Gilliam is in the program stemming from the incident last November where officers discovered a glass pipe in his vehicle that contained cocaine.
