Crash involving tractor-trailer results in at least one death

An accident on Interstate 64 eastbound at mile marker 217 in New Kent has resulted in at least one death.

According to Sgt. Stephan M. Vick of the Virginia State Police, at 6:14 p.m. a 2009 Sterling tractor-trailer ran off the left side of the road and struck several trees. The vehicle subsequently overturned down an embankment.

The driver of the tractor-trailer died at the scene. The passenger was ejected from the vehicle and was transported to a nearby medical facility by helicopter with serious injuries. Both occupants were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash.

The accident remains under investigation.
