Two involved in forgery ring among indictments handed up by New Kent grand jury

Two individuals who used fake money in New Kent County have been formally indicted by a New Kent grand jury.

Jermaine O. Yancy, 43, of the 400 block of Valley Drive, Syracuse, NY, and Willonda J. Scott, 21, of the 1500 block of Mt. Vernon Avenue, Portsmouth, were each indicted for offenses that allegedly took place on June 1 in New Kent. According to the indictment, Yancy and Scott allegedly used counterfeit bills to purchase items from local stores.

Yancy received four indictments of forging coins and bank notes while Scott was indicted on one charge of the crime. The duo also faces charges of the same account in other jurisdictions.

In other indictments handed up by the grand jury:

–Lawrence Lenard Campfield, 46, of the 2500 block of Norton Boulevard, Augusta, GA, on a single count of felony eluding from police. Campfield allegedly drove away from the signal of a state trooper on May 21 after receiving a signal to pull over.

–Jared Earl Congleton, 36, of the 6700 block of Lemburn Lane, Gloucester, on a solo count of failing to stop at an accident where a person was injured. Congleton allegedly left the scene of a car accident on May 6 and did not stop as required by law.

–Marquis Anthony Harding, 26, of the 100 block of Harris Creek Road, on one count each of felony leaving the scene of an accident and misdemeanor DUI. Harding allegedly hit a car on May 15, causing it to wreck. He allegedly stopped but later left the scene before being apprehended.

–Lee Alden Mooney, 50, of the 13000 block of Stage Road, Lanexa, on one count each of abduction, assault and battery on a family member (third offense), and strangulation. According to the indictment, Mooney allegedly committed the crimes against a relative on May 14.

–Sidney Ryan Rich, 52, of the 3500 block of Good Hope Road, Lanexa, on one charge of possession of a weapon by a convicted felon. Rich allegedly possessed the weapon when he was arrested on July 5.

–Dwayne Anthony Scott, 39, of the 300 block of Misty Creek Court, Newport News, on one count each of transport of a weapon by a violent felon and possession of cocaine. Scott allegedly committed these offenses on June 5.
