A Lanexa man has been arrested after he allegedly robbed the Rite-Aid store in Providence Forge Monday evening.

Richard Carlton May, 50, was apprehended by New Kent Sheriff’s Office after a brief chase on Route 60 (Pocahontas Trail) on Oct. 17.

According to the police report, shortly after 5 p.m. a man entered the store and demanded Oxycodone prescription pills from the pharmacist. The suspect allegedly said he had a firearm but did not display it. As deputies were answering the emergency call, information had been received that the suspect had left the store.

A description of the suspect and his vehicle was relayed to a responding deputy, who encountered the vehicle traveling westbound on Route 60. Emergency equipment was activated to stop the vehicle, but the vehicle cut through a parking lot and changed direction, traveling eastbound on Route 60. Another responding officer was able to deploy spike strips to puncture one of the tires on the subject’s truck, bringing it to a halt at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Waterside Drive.

May, identified as the subject was arrested without further incident. A search of the vehicle revealed a bottle of Oxycodone pills taken from the pharmacy, as well as a handgun on the seat of the truck.

May was charged with one count each of robbery, use of a firearm in commission of a felony, possession of a schedule I or II drug (Oxycodone), driving under the influence, driving revoked, and eluding police. He is currently being held in Henrico Jail East without bond. No injuries were reported during the incident.
