In a press release issued by New Kent Sheriff’s Office, at 12:30 a.m. a vehicle was speeding eastbound on Interstate 64 when a deputy attempted to pull over the vehicle. The driver disregarded the emergency equipment of the officer and continued, exiting the Interstate at the West Point/Route 33 exit (West Point exit). The suspect executed a U-Turn and headed westbound on Route 249, continuing on Pamunkey Church and Langley Pines Roads. The suspect returned to Route 249 and traveled eastbound and onto Route 30.

The suspect entered James City County and was finally stopped inside the entrance to Stonehouse. The James City Police Department assisted with scene management at the arrest site.

A 17-year old male suspect from Virginia Beach was taken into custody. The vehicle the individual was operating was recently stolen form Powhatan County. After making contact with Powhatan County Sheriff’s Office, another vehicle was located in the area where the suspect vehicle was reported stolen. That vehicle was taken from Virginia Beach and driven to Powhatan.

The teenager was wanted out of Virginia Beach for numerous violations. There were no injuries and three New Kent Sheriff’s Office vehicles were damaged as a result of the pursuit.
