Two men agreed to plea deals during Jan. 20 morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court:

–Carl James Hunt, 49, of the 300 block of South Park Drive, Petersburg, entered a guilty plea to one count of misdemeanor working without a proper construction license. One charge of construction fraud was dropped.

In a summary of evidence presented by Commonwealth’s Attorney Rob Tyler, on May 12, 2015, Juanita Thorne encountered the defendant at a hardware store. After a conversation, she received a business card that said he worked on homes. She called him and the two entered into a contract where he received $1,500 upfront. However, Thorne questioned him about getting a building permit for his work and found out he didn’t have a license. The victim gave him time to obtain the permit, but he neither obtained the document nor returned to the site to complete the work.

Under the agreement, Hunt received a six-month sentence with all time suspended. He repaid $1,266 in restitution and must now pay a fine of $250.

–Dandre Khalil Wilson, 20, of the 10000 block of Iron Wood Drive, Prince George, accepted a plea agreement and pled guilty to one count of attempted burglary. A second attempted burglary charge as well as a single charge of possession of burglary tools were dropped as part of the agreement.

In a summary of evidence, Wilson and a co-defendant drove to a residence on Cattail Road and attempted to enter a garage on July 1, 2016. One of the homeowners noticed a suspicious car and walked outside to see one man sitting in the car. Moments later, a second man raced to the vehicle and jumped inside before it took off. Moments later, that same vehicle was stopped by a Charles City deputy for a traffic infraction. When information that an attempted burglary had taken place and a description of the vehicle was relayed to the officer, he searched the vehicle and discovered gloves, mask, a hammer, and a gun. Wilson and the co-defendant were both arrested shortly afterwards.

Under the plea agreement, Wilson received a 10-year sentence with all but three months suspended.
