Former juvenile who eluded police, Rite Aid suspect among New Kent indictments
A Virginia Beach teenager who allegedly led a variety of police departments on a high speed chase, including members of New Kent Sheriff’s Office, was indicted during Jan. 23 proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court.
Morris Von Westlove II, 18, was indicted by a New Kent grand jury on four counts of felony destruction of property, and one count each of felony eluding police, attempted capital murder of a police officer, and obtaining a credit card without permission.
Last Nov. 3, a high-speed chase occurred in New Kent around 12:30 a.m., with a vehicle speeding eastbound on Interstate 64. The driver of the vehicle disregarded the emergency equipment of the officer and continued, exiting the interstate at the West Point/Route 33 exit. The suspect executed a U-Turn and headed westbound on Route 249, continuing on Pamunkey Church and Langley Pines Roads. The suspect returned to Route 249 and traveled eastbound and onto Route 30. The individual continued driving on several private properties and roadways, nearly striking a deputy who was on foot before driving into James City County. The suspect was finally arrested at the entrance of Stonehouse in James City.
Westlove, who is alleged to have committed the offenses, was a juvenile at the time and allegedly wanted in Virginia Beach for a number of other violations.
In other indictments, a Lanexa man who allegedly robbed the Rite Aid store in Providence Forge received three certified charges handed up by the grand jury.
Richard Carlton May, 50, of the 300 block of Wahrani Trail, was indicted on one charge each of robbery, use of a firearm to commit a felony (first offense), and possession of a controlled substance (Oxycodone).
Last Oct. 17, May allegedly walked into the Rite Aid shortly after 5 p.m. and approached the pharmacist, demanding Oxycodone prescription pills. After receiving the pills, he allegedly left the building traveling westbound on Route 60 when a responding deputy recognized the vehicle. After receiving a signal to pull over, May allegedly used his vehicle and cut across a parking lot and turned it around to travel eastbound on Route 60. After spike strips were able to puncture one of the tires of the subject’s truck, the vehicle came to a halt at the intersection of Pocahontas Trail and Waterside Drive.
