Eleven indicted by grand jury in New Kent Circuit Court

A New Kent grand jury certified indictments against 11 individuals during Mar. 20 proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court:

–Steven Ernest Danchak Jr., 53, of the 100 block of W. Semple Road, Williamsburg, on a lone charge of extortion. The defendant allegedly wrote a letter to his victim threatening to do her harm on Nov. 12, 2016.

–Ashley Nicole Detwiler, 24, of the 900 block of Pheasant Run Road, Williamsburg, on a single count of grand larceny. Detwiler allegedly stole tools that included a Stihl leaf-blower and chainsaw last Aug. 16.

–Frank Fleming III, 43, of the 10000 block of Wolfe Manor Court, Glen Allen, on a lone charge of possession of cocaine. The defendant allegedly had the substance on him last Aug. 24.

–Charles Richard Howard, 49, of the 6660 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, on one charge of malicious wounding. The defendant allegedly injured the victim during an altercation last Oct. 19.

–Justin Tyler McLaughlin, 26, of the 6300 block of Hopewell Road, New Kent, on one count of possession of heroin. McLaughlin allegedly had the substance on Sept. 15, 2016.

–Chaka Charmaine Otey, 36, of the 8000 block of Airport Road, Quinton, on one charge each of obtaining money by false pretenses and forgery. The indictment alleges that on Dec. 7, 2016, the defendant forged a cashier’s check at C&F Bank to obtain currency.

–Kenneth Ray Philbates, 44, of the 9500 block of Richmond Road, Lanexa, on a single count of construction fraud. Philbates allegedly received money to complete a project but did not do so on Sept. 2, 2016.

–Darren Wright Snyder, 46, of the 9300 block of Howard Drive, Mechanicsville, on one count each of driving suspended/revoked that caused endangerment and DUI while being suspended due to felony convictions. The alleged offense took place on Dec. 2, 2016.

–Ivan Richard Trexler, 67, of the 3000 block of Evergreen Road, Quinton, on one count each of malicious wounding and strangulation. The defendant allegedly committed the aforementioned offenses against his victim last Dec. 9.

–Zachary Widmark, 20, of the 85 Parrots Creek Lane, Waterview, and Kasey Zahn, 20, of 6 Rodes Avenue, Sandston, on one count each of possession of marijuana with intent to sell/distribute and felony child abuse. Widmark is also charged with an additional count each of possession of a controlled substance (LSD) and possession of a firearm while being in possession of a controlled substance. The indictments state that the offenses took place on Oct. 10, 2016.
