No speakers at budget hearings

Citizens elected not to speak at respective hearings on county budgets for New Kent and Charles City County.

Monday’s board meeting in New Kent on the proposed $64.6 million operating budget yielded no comments. The real estate tax is expected to remain at 83 cents per $100 of assessed value while the property tax is projected at $3.75 per $100 for the upcoming year.

In Charles City Tuesday night, citizens elected to forgo remarks on the county’s $27.4 million budget. The real estate tax rate has been labeled to stay neutral at 76 cents per $100 of assessed value.
