Charles City, New Kent leaders adopt FY2017-18 budgets

Leaders in Charles City and New Kent County adopted their budgets for FY2017-18 in recent meetings.

Tuesday night in Charles City, county leaders voted unanimously to adopt a $27,425,116 budget for the upcoming year. Of that amount, local schools account for $10,033,196. The county’s real estate tax rate will remain at its current rate of 76 cents per $100 of assessed.

Wednesday evening in New Kent, supervisors voted 3-2 to adopt a $62,404,748. Of that amount, $31,117,703 is tabbed for county schools. The county’s real estate tax will remain the same at 83 cents per $100 of assessed value. A proposal for additional funds to the school ($25,000) and Heritage Public Library ($15,000) was denied with the passing of the budget.
