Two men in unrelated cases indicted on charges of rape

Two men in unrelated cases have each been indicted on rape charges by a Charles City grand jury.

Cordell Lamar Jones, 19, of the 3700 block of Lafayette Street, Hopewell, was indicted on one count of rape of a victim under the age of 13 during Nov. 14 proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. The indictment alleges that on Aug. 28, Jones committed the crime after encountering the victim on the Virginia Capital Trail bike path.

In an unrelated case, Eric Wayne Bassett has been charged with one count each of rape and abduction with intent to defile. According to the indictment, Bassett abducted the victim after an Oct 16 party and took them down a dark road where the alleged offense took place.

In other indictments certified by the grand jury:

–Brandon Deandre Bowman, 27, of the 13000 block of The Glebe Lance, Charles City, received a lone indictment on selling stolen property. Bowman allegedly sold a four-wheeler belonging to Eddie Richardson on May 1.

–Kittie Ann Curtiss, of Providence Forge, VA, was indicted on one charge each of grand larceny, obtaining money by false pretenses, and intent to sell stolen property. Curtiss allegedly stole chainsaws and power tools belonging to Robert Woodall on May 25 and attempted to sell them for money.
