SCS Broadband representatives met with officials from several localities, including Charles City and New Kent, during a regional meeting last week.

Requested by local government representatives, SCS Broadband provided information regarding Internet and infrastructure in rural counties. According to New Kent County Administrator Rodney Hathaway, some progress was made at the meeting.

“They provided us with some updates and addressed some of our concerns,” said Hathaway Wednesday morning. “They have been giving us updates about their plans and intentions, as well as progress they have made and steps to address some issues.”

Among one of the major steps taken by SCS Broadband is a new feature on their website that provides updates to the status of Internet in the county.

According to their website, in Charles City the overall status reports that SCS Broadband has loaded on all three county towers and begun deployment to homes and businesses. The deployment has started in the Courthouse and Ruthville areas. Residents in Roxbury have to wait longer as blockage issues exist. In order to correct this, the company is looking into leasing space on commercial towers.

In New Kent, SCS Broadband is in the process of leasing towers after county leaders approved the company’s implementation plan.

The company also intends to utilize towers in both Hanover and Charles City to provide Internet to those citizens. According to Hathaway, service may become available as early as January 2019.
