New Kent plane crash sends pilot to hospital

A plane crashed as it attempted to land on the runway at New Kent Airport Sunday afternoon.

Virginia State Police are investigating a plane crash that happened shortly after 4 p.m. in New Kent County.

A preliminary investigation says that a single engine Cessna plane crashed around the 6900 block of Terminal Road in New Kent. The report says the plane was attempting to land and veered to the left, striking some guide wires.

The pilot was transported to a local hospital and is being treated for serious but non-life threatening injuries. The FAA has been notified and the crash remains under investigation.
