Two former Bottoms Bridge McDonald’s employees who allegedly took money in unrelated incidents were indicted Monday morning by a New Kent grand jury.

Veondra Elana Brown, 19, of the 12000 block of Oakwood Road, Providence Forge, and Donnell Maurice Comfort Jr., 42, of the 700 block of Windomere Avenue, Richmond, received indictments stemming from incidents that saw money disappear from the establishment.

Brown was indicted on one charge of grand larceny stemming from an Aug. 2, 2018 incident. Her case was tried Monday afternoon and she agreed to terms of a plea deal to an amended charge of petty larceny.

In a summary of evidence provided by assistant Commonwealth’s Attorney Randy Del Rossi, Brown worked as a manager and received a call from an individual who identified himself as a “U.S. Marshal.” The individual told Brown that the business was being investigated and that her cooperation was needed through the support of using cash to purchase gift cards. Brown took $5,898.82 from the establishment and purchased gift cards to send out. The next day, Brown was questioned about her actions and she explained what happened. According to Del Rossi, other local restaurants in the area were called and apparently it was a scam.

Under the plea agreement, Brown received a 12-month sentence with all time suspended. She had already made restitution in the full amount which played a part in the charge being reduced.

For Comfort, the indictment alleges that he took $5,133 from McDonald’s on Oct. 5, 2017. His trial is tentatively set for Mar. 11.
