A tractor-trailer crash on Pocahontas Trail (Route 60) eastbound near Bottoms Bridge in New Kent has closed the road.

According to the Virginia State Police, a 1999 Western Star tractor hauling 24,000 pounds of trash was traveling eastbound when it ran off the road’s right side, losing control and overturning back onto the roadway. All eastbound lanes were blocked as the result of the accident.

The driver, Ali Nelson, 39, of Dumfries, VA, was checked for minor injuries at the scene. He was charged with reckless driving (failing to maintain control) and having a violation of his commercial vehicle driver’s license.

New Kent Sheriff’s Office, Fire and EMS, and VDOT are assisting with the scene. The crash remains under investigation.
