West Point man charged with burglary in Eltham

A West Point man was arrested and charged with six crimes stemming from a July 9 alleged burglary.

Isaac Alim Newman, 32, of the 8000 block of Point Lookout Road, was arrested by New Kent Sheriff’s Office on charges of burglary, assault and battery on a law enforcement officer, assault and battery, obstruction of justice, possession of a concealed weapon, and public intoxication.

According to the press release, around 10:50 p.m., a call was received about an individual trying to force themselves into a residence at the 7800 block of Plum Point Road in Eltham. When officers arrived, the suspect had left the scene with deputies receiving a description of the vehicle. The vehicle was located a short distance away and the suspect was located. When officers attempted to arrest the suspect, he began to resist arrest and displayed a firearm, pointing it at a deputy. The suspect was eventually tased and taken into custody.

Newman was transported to Henrico Regional Jail East and is currently being held without bond.
