Benjamin Harrison Bridge to close for two consecutive weekends

The Benjamin Harrison Bridge, that connects the counties of Charles City and Prince George, will be closed for two consecutive weekends starting Friday, Nov. 13.

Virginia’s Department of Transportation (VDOT) announced that starting at 12 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 13, the bridge will be closed to all traffic for rope and clutch replacement on the bridge. The bridge will reopen on Monday, Nov. 16, 6 a.m. before closing once again on Friday, Nov. 20, 12 a.m. The bridge will reopen on Monday, Nov. 23, 6 a.m. after that.

Motorists traveling northbound from Prince George into Charles City are to travel westbound on Route 10 to Interstate 295 in Hopewell. Motorists can take Interstate 295 north towards exit 22A and get on Route 5 east to return to Route 106/156.

Motorists traveling southbound from Charles City to Prince George are to take Route 5 westbound to Interstate 295 southbound. Motorists are to drive southbound on Interstate 295 and take exit 15A and head east on Route 10 to return to Route 106/156.

Motorists traveling into the Hampton Roads area can use the Jamestown-Scotland Ferry as an alternate route.
