Former Cumberland Hospital medical director indicted for sex crimes against minors
A former doctor who worked as the medical director at Cumberland Hospital in New Kent County has been indicted by a New Kent grand jury.
Unsealed indictments have charged Daniel Davidow with four counts of allegedly committing acts of sexual abuse and assault while working at Cumberland Hospital for Children and Adolescents according to a press release from the office of New Kent County Commonwealth’s Attorney Scott Renick.
In the past few years, Cumberland Hospital has undergone scrutiny with several allegations. Former psychologist Herschel Harden was charged with two counts of sexual penetration of a minor from 2018 to 2019. Harden was facing the possibility of a plea deal during a Feb. 2021 trial but took his own life via gunshot. Another employee, Stacey Burrell, accepted a plea deal in Dec. 2021 stemming from a Sept. 2019 crime of unlawful wounding and was sentenced to a year in jail.
Cumberland Hospital is also currently facing a $127 million lawsuit that began in Oct. 2020. Davidow is listed as one of the defendants in the suit that was filed by Breit Cantor Attorneys on behalf of 20 families of former patients.
No further comments are being made by Renick’s office at this time. Davidow was scheduled to have a bond hearing on Dec. 6.
