Ecimovic retains Republican bid for NK Commissioner of Revenue; Aird ousts Morrissey for Virginia Senate seat bid in CC

Incumbent Laura Ecimovic defeated Terry Cornelius during Tuesday’s primary election to secure her position as the Republican party representative as New Kent Commissioner of Revenue for the November general election.

Ecimovic garnered a total of 1,427 votes as of the publishing of this article. In comparison, Cornelius earned 669 votes.

Ecimovic won more votes in all 12 voting precincts in New Kent. The closest precinct battles took place in the Cumberland area, where Ecimovic won by a slight margin of 83-79, and in Mountcastle where she triumphed 43-32. In the remaining 10 precincts, she won by at least 40 votes.

In New Kent, approximately 2,098 voters, or 10.99 percent, took part of the primary election process.

In Charles City, Lashrecse Aird easily wrestled away the Democratic bid from Incumbent Joseph Morrisey for the 13th District Senate seat.

Aird won all three districts in Charles City as well as the early voting ballets. She accumulated a total of 617 votes in her favor, whereas her opponent Morrisey earned 294. In overall voting, Aird bested Morrissey 14,603 to 6,456.

Also in Charles City, Incumbent Delores McQuinn had little trouble defeating challenger Terrence Walker for the 81st District seat.

In Charles City, McQuinn finished ahead of Walker in all three districts along with the early voting tabulations. McQuinn received 776 votes from residents, in comparison to Walker’s 132 votes. Statewide, McQuinn had earned 7,353 votes while Walker mustered 1,513 votes at the time of this press release.

Both Aird and McQuinn will move forward and represent the Democratic Party in the November 2023 general election. Approximately 921 voters, or 16.11 percent, participated in the primary election process.
