Pearson appointed as interim District 3 supervisor in New Kent

Amy Pearson has been appointed as the interim representative for District 3 in New Kent County.

At a special work session held Monday, Dec. 18, New Kent County’s Board of Supervisors appointed Pearson to fill the expired term of the late Patricia Paige, who passed away on Nov. 28, 2023. Pearson’s term will end on Dec. 31, 2024 after a Nov. 5, 2024 Special Election will take place to fill the vacancy.

Pearson is the Chief Financial Officer for the Virginia Workers’ Compensation Commission. She is also a former Assistant Financial Services Director for New Kent, where she worked from Nov. 2001 to Oct. 2010. In total, Pearson has over 30 years of experience in financial administration and management. She has also served on New Kent’s Planning Commission and the Board of Equalization.

“I am truly honored by your confidence in me,” Pearson said at her final Planning Commission meeting on Dec. 18 before being appointed. “Make no mistake though, I could try the rest of my life and I could never take the place of Ms. Paige.

“Although I can’t fill her shoes, I will give it my all to be the voice of the District 3 citizens in New Kent,” she added. “Like Ms. Paige, I am a listener, a thinking, and a doer. I assure you I will be accessible, and I will give it 110 percent.”

Pearson was chosen from a field of 24 candidates and was approved unanimously by the board of supervisors. She was sworn in on Tuesday, Dec. 19.
