Virginia Department of Election releases unofficial numbers from 2025 general election

Virginia’s Department of Elections have released unofficial results from the Nov. 4 general election for Charles City and New Kent County.

In Charles City County, the race for governor resulted in Abigail Spanberger garnered 1,975 votes (57.26 percent) while Winsome Earle-Sears received 1,469 votes (42.59 percent). Ghazala Hashmi earned 1,910 votes (55.80 percent) in the race for lieutenant governor, while John Reid II garnered 1,509 votes (44.08 percent). In the race for attorney general, Jay Jones received 1,842 votes (53.78 percent), while opponent Jason Miyares totaled 1,569 votes (45.81 percent). Finally, Delores McQuinn ran unopposed for the 81st seat in the Virginia House of Delegates, receiving 2,315 votes (88.09 percent).

Approximately 3,461 ballots were cast in Charles City out of 5,896 registered voters, resulting in a 59 percent turnout rate.

In New Kent, Earle-Sears was the recipient of 8,753 votes (63.41 percent) in the race for governor, while Spanberger received 5,028 votes (36.43 percent). Reid garnered 8,984 votes (65.24 percent) in the battle for lieutenant governor, with Hashmi receiving 4,771 votes (34.65 percent). Miyares pulled in 9,239 votes (67.39 percent) in the contest for the attorney general, with his opponent Jones mustering 4,430 votes (32.31 percent).

In New Kent, there were two battles for seats in the House of Delegates. Scott Wyatt reeled in 4,800 votes (65.14 percent), with Andrew Ward pulling in 2,556 votes (34.69 percent) for the seat in the 60th District. Amanda Batten hauled in 4,145 votes (64.95 percent) in the contest for the 71st District seat, with opponent Jessica Anderson racking up 2,232 votes (34.97 percent).

Of the 21,234 registered New Kent voters, approximately 13,823 ballots were cast, resulting in a turnout rate of 65 percent.

Spanberger, Hashmi, and Jones emerged as unofficial winners for the statewide races. Wyatt captured the 60th District seat in the House of Delegates, while Anderson defeated Batten for the 71st District seat.
