Williamsburg man arrested on alleged burglary in Lanexa
A Williamsburg man has been arrested in relation to a break-in on Waterside Drive in the Lanexa area of New Kent. Richard Timothy Lemaster, 20, of the 100 block of Great Glen Drive, was taken into custody on July 14 and charged with one count each of grand larceny, burglary, intent to sell stolen property, and destruction of property, and two counts of contributing to the delinquency of a minor. NK authorities seek information on daytime burglaries
New Kent Sheriff’s Office is seeking information involving two daytime burglaries in the county. The burglaries took place on Paige Road and Olivet Church Road in the county on July 14. If you have any information or have seen any suspicious persons or vehicles in the area, call the sheriff’s office at 966-9500 or Crime Stoppers at 780-1000.
One dies in Saturday morning crash
One person has died as a result of an early morning vehicle crash in western New Kent County near the Hanover County line. Rodney B. Flesher Jr., 21, of North Chesterfield, was pronounced dead at the scene at an accident on Old Church Road, just half a mile east of Old River Road. State police sporkesman Sgt. Steve Vick said around 6:36 a.m., Flesher was driving a 1998 Ford Mustang, traveling southbound when the vehicle swayed off the left side of the road and hit a tree. Flesher was wearing a seatbelt. New Kent supervisors asked to oppose proposed sludge permit to DEQ
Citizens from New Kent and surrounding counties are asking supervisors to oppose a proposal from the Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) that would allow Synagro Central LLC to obtain a permit to bring sludge and other waste products into the county. Concerned about the quality of water and hazardous smell, four people asked county leaders at the July 14 meeting to draft a resolution to deny Synagro the permit. The individuals addressed supervisors, providing documents in which Synagro allegedly endangers New Kent based on offenses that have occurred in other localities. Overnight paving slated for Route 60 in New Kent
Route 60 west (Pocahontas Trail) will have alternative lane closures from July 13-17. The road will be closed west at Foxhill Road (Rt. 657) from 7 p.m.-8 a.m. for overnight paving. Expect residual delays as a result of the lane closures.
Benjamin Harrison Bridge to have multiple closures until November
The Benjamin Harrison Bridge that connects Charles City and Prince George counties will be closed for four day periods beginning July 21 to November 2014 for bridge improvement projects. Crews will replace the 47-year old bridge’s auxiliary drive that raises and lowers the span, as well as make preventive maintenance repairs to the superstructure. Repairs will also address deck patching and beam replacement. Charles City Sheriff’s Office is warning citizens of a scam targeting credit card information. A citizen notified the sheriff’s office on a suspicious call received from a local number (804-829-xxxx). An automated machine asks if the victim would like to lower their credit card rate. If the option to lower the rate is accepted, the victim is transferred to a live operator who will ask for credit card information on the card that the victim wishes to lower their rate on. Reckless driving accident closes eastbound Interstate 64 for six hours
A Norfolk man operating a 2007 Freightliner box truck has been charged with reckless driving after a Tuesday morning accident caused Interstate 64 to shut down for six hours. James R. Frazier, 41, was taken into custody after an investigation stemmed from the morning accident. Virginia State Police spokesman Sgt. Steve Vick said Frazier operated the truck while traveling in the left lane on Interstate 64 eastbound as traffic began to slow down. Distributing cocaine nets Petersburg man six-year prison term
A Petersburg man who sold cocaine to a confidential informant will now serve six years in prison after accepting a plea deal in New Kent Circuit Court. Jeremiah Jerome Harrison, 28, of the 100 block of Marshall Street, entered guilty pleas to two counts of distribution of cocaine (second offense) during Monday morning court proceedings. Two additional distribution charges were dropped. Eltham man arrested on domestic charges in New Kent
A Eltham man has been arrested on charges stemming from an alleged domestic dispute over the July 4 holiday weekend. Dennis Ray King, 53, of the 18000 block of Motel Drive, Room 111, has been charged with one count each of abduction and domestic assault. According to the police report, New Kent deputies responded to the Washington Burgess Motel in Eltham to address a domestic dispute between a wife and husband.
