An inmate incarcerated at Henrico Jail East in New Kent and a former employee of the jail were found guilty to conspiring to deliver drugs in prison. William Lamont Braxton, 34, currently of Henrico Jail East, and Amil Griffith, 22, of the 2000 block of Seldendale Drive, Hampton, went before Judge B. Elliott Bondurant as part of Monday morning proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Braxton entered a guilty plea to the offense while Griffith entered an Alford Plea of Guilty, indicated that while she maintained her innocence, evidence presented in the case would be enough to convict her of…

New Kent man dies in early Saturday morning accident in Hanover County
A New Kent man died in an early morning accident Saturday morning in Hanover County. According to a police report, at 3 a.m. Hanover County Sheriff’s Office responded to a call for service for a single-vehicle crash on Old Church Road near Flannigan Mill Road. A preliminary investigation says that a 2011 Dodge pick-up was traveling south on Old Church Road when it ran off the roadway and collided with a tree on the opposite side. A Charles City man who discharged a firearm at multiple people has entered no contest pleas as part of an agreement reached Friday morning in Charles City Circuit Court. Gary Lee Wade, 55, of the 12900 block of Wilcox Neck Road, entered no contest pleas to two amended charges of attempted unlawful wounding (originally two counts of attempted malicious wounding) and two amended charges of misdemeanor reckless handling of a firearm (originally two counts of use of a firearm in commission of a felony) as part of the agreement. Charles City County barters to reduce fines levied by Virginia Department of Environmental Quality
It’s no secret that Charles City County has struggled to keep their wastewater treatment plants up to standards set forth by the Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ). But through progress and negotiations, they escaped what could have been a huge financial blow to the budget. Bartering with DEQ over violations to four Charles City wastewater treatment plans have resulted in the county paying total fines in the amount of $33,911. A Norfolk man will spend 19 months in jail after pleading guilty to crimes related to credit card thefts in New Kent. Lanexa woman dies in New Kent motorcycle accident
A Saturday afternoon accident on Stage Road in New Kent has resulted in the death of a Lanexa woman. According to a Virginia State Police report, officers responded to a single-vehicle crash eastbound on Stage Road. A 2013 Triumph Street Triple R motorcycle ran off the road on the right and struck a tree. The driver, Sara Madrae Holden, 38, was ejected from the motorcycle and died at the scene. She was wearing a helmet at the time. The crash remains under investigation.

Former Charles City County Board of Supervisor member Timothy Cotman Sr. has died. Cotman passed away on Aug. 1, 2023, at the age of 80. Cotman served on Charles City’s Board of Supervisors from 2002-2011. A Providence Forge man will spend three years in prison for possessing child pornography after receiving formal sentencing during Monday proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Christopher Paul Perry, 36, received the active term of incarceration following his sentencing hearing on the offense. A Quinton man has been indicted on two felony charges, including second degree murder, by a New Kent grand jury. Jason Tyler Boyd, 40, of the 9200 block of Pine Hollow Road, was indicted on one charge each of second-degree murder and use of a firearm in a felony (first offense) as part of morning proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court.
