A New Kent man will spend seven months in jail for assaulting a law enforcement officer after he was taken into custody. Casey Rockford Lewis, 29, of the 10000 block of Mt. Prospect Road, entered a guilty plea to one count of assault on a law enforcement officer and a no contest plea to an amended charge of misdemeanor assault and battery on a family member (originally strangulation) as part of a plea agreement reached during Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. A Yorktown teenager will spend the next five years in prison for leading a high-speed pursuit that killed his passenger in New Kent County. Jahreese Watson-Ricks, 19, of the 500 block of Arabian Circle, learned of his imprisonment during Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. During an Aug. 22 trial, evidence presented by New Kent Commonwealth Attorney Scott Renick showed that on Oct. 24, 2021, around 12:45 a.m., a Virginia State Trooper noticed a Sedan traveling over 100 miles per hour on Interstate 64 eastbound near the 211-mile marker. A Williamsburg man will spend eight months in prison for forging his brother’s name on a summons after receiving formal sentencing in Charles City Circuit Court Monday afternoon. Michael Dwayne Gibson, 39, of the 100 block of Burgess Street, learned of his term after a presentence report was entered as part of the record. In an Aug. 5 trial, Gibson entered guilty pleas to one count each of forgery and uttering/forgery as part of an agreement reached. Providence Forge man indicted for allegedly damaging cotton field in Charles City

A Providence Forge man who allegedly damaged a field of crops were among five indicted during Tuesday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. David Wayne Trull II, 49, of the 12000 block of Green Oak Road, was indicted on a single count of destruction of property and/or monument. According to the indictment, on June 4, Trull allegedly damaged a five-acre tract of land with cotton on it belonging to John Tench. Board chairman dissatisfied with language in Charles City bike race proposed ordinance

In August, Charles City’s Board of Supervisors held a special meeting to weigh the pros and cons of bike races within county borders. After that meeting, a directive was given to develop an ordinance to address that issue. After Tuesday night’s board meeting, it will be at least an additional month before something is presented to county leaders. With plans to continue to attract tourists to the county, Charles City County supervisors approved a project concept as part of its plan for economic growth during Tuesday night’s regular board meeting. County leaders voted 3-0 to begin the process to develop Market 5 at the southeast intersection of Route 5 (John Tyler Memorial Highway) and Route 155 (Courthouse Road). Market 5 is the first step in the county’s goal to form the Charles City Courthouse Village. Hampton man found guilty of eluding Virginia State Trooper in New Kent

A Hampton man will spend a month in jail after being found guilty of eluding a state trooper following Monday afternoon proceedings in New Kent Circuit Court. Sean Douglas Clem, 32, of the 600 block of Teach Street, was convicted of the offense following a contested trial. One charge each of misdemeanor reckless driving and misdemeanor driving without the proper licensure credentials were dropped prior to trial. Williamsburg Police Department is attempting to find a New Kent man who allegedly attempted to film a woman by placing his cellphone between her legs. Misdemeanor warrants have been issued against Richard Lee Gibson, 59, on one count each of unlawfully creating an image of another and possession of obscene items. The warrants say the offenses occurred on Sept. 30 at the 5000 block of Richmond Road in Williamsburg.
