An accident on westbound Interstate 64 in New Kent just prior to exit 214 (Providence Forge) has resulted in several fatalities Monday morning. According to a Virginia State Police, troopers responded to a crash just after 11 a.m. on July 12. The preliminary investigation says a sedan was headed west passing traffic on the right shoulder when it ran off the road onto the grassy shoulder and struck a post mounting a VDOT (Virginia Department of Transportation) traffic counter. A Charles City grand jury returned one indictment as a true bill during Tuesday morning proceedings in Charles City Circuit Court. Daniel Wayne New, 63, of the 6000 block of Greenyard Estates, Providence Forge, was indicted on one county of making a bomb or burn threat. The defendant allegedly threatened to burn down a shed belonging to his sister’s boyfriend on May 13.

New Kent’s Board of Supervisors held a special work session with RiverStreet Networks for an update on future broadband services within the county. A Mechanicsville man has died after his vehicle was struck by a train in New Kent County. Kevin A. Pence, 45, succumbed to his injuries at a hospital following the June 24 accident. An issue of truck traffic that has plagued the western portion of Charles City County since 2019 reached a resolution Tuesday evening after a vote by county leaders. Charles City County Supervisors voted unanimously to prevent thru truck traffic on both Charles City Road and Old Union Road during their monthly regular meeting.
