Barbara Ann Shoda Taylor

Barbara Ann Shoda Taylor, 75, of New Kent, Virginia, was called home to our Lord and Savior on Saturday, Oct. 22, 2022.

Barbara was born in Bluefield, West Virginia, to the late Mary and John Shoda. She was a loyal and obedient servant of God. She passionately loved her family and friends, as well as sharing the love and warmth of our savior Jesus Christ with as many people as possible.

Barbara always wore a radiant smile, remained kind and generous at all times, demonstrated the proficiency of a great listener, and possessed an incredible servant’s heart. She was truly the hands and feet of Jesus all her life. She served in many capacities such as on mission trips, food pantries, soup kitchens, washing the feet of the homeless, Victory Junction for severely handicapped children, a community Bible study leader, and was a very active member of New Kent Christian Center. She was also the first female since the early 1700’s to serve the chalice at a local historic church where George Washington married Martha Dandridge Custis. Barbara will truly be missed by all who met her and knew her. Well done good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21).

Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Mary and John Shoda; her beloved son, Wesley Hunter Taylor; and brother, Mike Shoda.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 54 years, James K. (Jim) Taylor; two sons, John Sterling Taylor (Breezy) and Terrence Paige Taylor (Timnah), both of Richmond, Virginia; two sisters, Helen Kade (Doug) of Michigan and Patricia Eudailey (Billy) of Richmond, Virginia; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, and beloved friends.

A Celebration of Life will be announced at a later date. Tributes may be posted at www.vincentfh.com.
