Edward Ashley

Edward “Bobby” Ashley, 88, of Little Plymouth, VA passed away July 22, 2026, with his family by his side.

He was a long-time member of Olivet Baptist Church where he served as a deacon. As a young man, he served in the Army National Guard. After many years of service, Bobby retired from the West Point Paper Mill in 1989. He farmed his whole life from 1964 until 2014 and worked at Ashley Logging as a truck driver where he was better known by his CB handle, Junior Johnson.

Bobby was an avid hunter, NASCAR and sports fan, and enjoyed watching basketball and football games. Above all, Bobby cherished his family and was a steady, loving presence in the lives of those who knew them.

Bobby was preceded in death by his parents, Steve and Evelyn Ashley; brothers, Sonny, Tommy and Camb Ashley.

Bobby is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Bertha Crowe Ashley; a sister, Jean Ashley Jeffreys (Michael); a brother, Michael Ashley (Pam); sisters-in-law, Dorothy, Wilma and Myrna Ashley; a brother-in-law, Walter “Frog” Crowe; God Daughters, Amber Bobby Kurfees and Sarah Rogone; a God Son, Brian Ashley; and many loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service will be held 3 p.m. Sunday, July 26, 2026, at Lower King & Queen Baptist Church, 204 Timber Branch Road, Little Plymouth, VA 23108. The family will receive friends from 2 p.m. to 3 p.m. before the service at the church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
