Etta Lee Wallace Jones

Etta Lee Wallace Jones, 92, transitioned to her Heavenly Home on Wednesday, June 11, 2025.
Etta was born on Dec. 18, 1932, in Charles City County, Virginia, as the third of sixteen children to the late Summerfield and Rosetta Bradby Wallace. She accepted Christ as her Savior in Aug. 1941 and was baptized and joined Little Elam Baptist in Sept. 1941.
Etta was educated in the Charles City County School System. She lived in Baltimore for a short time where she worked at St. Lutheran Hospital, among many other places, including Coleville Nursery, Babcock Phillips, Tomato Factor, Plants Unlimited, and the Nabisco Cafeteria.
On Mar. 24, 1951, Etta was united in holy matrimony with the love of her life, Archer Junius Jones Sr., and two sons were born to this union: Archer Jones Jr. and Darus Jones. As they settled into married life, they decided to take in her sister, Clem, and raise her as their own.
Etta was a woman of faith who believed her children needed to be brought up knowing the Lord. She made sure her boys attended Sunday School and Church. Etta enjoyed singing with the Senior Choir and cooking for her Church family. She opened her home to everyone who needed it and was a caregiver to so many. She loved to entertain, travel (be it with her husband in the 18-wheeler, traveling with family and friends, or driving around the county), and she loved to eat. Etta never met a stranger; wherever she went, she made herself known whether it be at the grocery store, at the mall, at the hospital, or at dinner. She was cordial, kind, and loved to talk.
Etta was preceded in death by her parents, Summerfield and Rosetta Bradby Wallace; her husband, Archer J. Jones Sr.; siblings, Emma, Willie Summerfield Jr., Arnette, Leon, Delois, Dallis, Rosa, Evan, Bobby, and Maurice; and grandson, Floyd H. Miles Jr. (who gave her the nickname “Mama Bean”).
