Frederick Charles Garand

Frederick Charles Garand, 95, of Quinton, Virginia, passed away on Friday, Dec. 6, 2019 at St. Mary’s Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

He was born on Feb. 26, 1924 to Simon and Eva (Guaire) Garand in Montpelier, Vermont.

Fred graduated from St. Michaels High School in Montpelier and Niagara Falls College in New York. He was part owner of S.L. Garand Company in Montpelier and owner of Garand-Teed Quarries in Adamant, Vermont. Fred moved to Quinton, Virginia, where he worked for CVS Pharmacy before going into business for himself.

Fred went into the United States Army on March 17, 1943, where he was a switchboard operator on the front lines.

He married Luella Bean on July 4, 1952 in Hardwick, Vermont.

Fred was predeceased by his parents, and his brothers, Oscar, Leo, and Raymond Garand.

He is survived by his wife, Luella; a son, Michael Garand; daughters, Patricia (Lester) Toby and Janet (Peter) Lashua; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service. There will be a family gathering at a later date.
