Harry L. McCartney Jr.

Harry L. “Trooper” McCartney Jr., 56, of Lanexa, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, Sept. 30, 2021.

Harry was born on Apr. 11, 1965 at Ft. Eustis, Virginia, to Master Sergeant Harry L. McCartney Sr. (USA-Ret) and Donna L. McCartney. He grew up in Newport News and graduated from Menchville High School in 1983.

Trooper was active in sports as a youngster and became a great outdoorsman, loving all animals, hunting, fishing, building, and everything at the Outer Banks. He rarely met a stranger, was a friend to all, and mentor to many. Family, friends, and work ethic were top on his priority list.

Trooper was wall known for his charisma, never being more than a phone call away and bringing a smile with his “Little Johnny Jokes.” He was the co-owner of M&M Construction with Bob Moore and accumulated many lasting friends over the years.

Trooper was preceded in death by his father, Harry Sr.; and his oldest sister, Ginger Heath.

He is survived by his sons, Dalton (Nicole), Sawyer, and Brandon; three grandchildren, Logan, Aidan, and Falon; mother, Donna; sisters, Terry Poplawski (Michael), Jody O’Hara (Bill), Kelly Bourdon (Gregg), and his baby sister Tracey; his girlfriend, Eileen Savage; his special pal, Cole; and the love shone brightest as an entertainer and mentor to nieces Erin, Brittany, and Morgan; and nephews Jeffery, Gregory, Nicholas, Sean, and Matt.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, Oct. 9, 1 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Virginia, and will be officiated by his brother-in-law Michael Poplawski. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. A reception will be held at the residence from 3-5 p.m.
