Ima Hanvey

Ima “Jean” Hanvey, 82, of New Kent County, Virginia, went to be with the Lord on May 14, 2021.

Jean was born in Reagor Springs, Texas, but spent most of her life in Virginia. She was a resident of New Kent County for over 30 years, where she was the final owner and operator of Adam’s Grocery Store. Jean will be remembered as a generous person who found much joy in her family. She was greatly loved and will be greatly missed.

Jean was preceded in death by her husband, Bernard R. Hanvey; parents, Henry and Jane Anderson; and siblings, Charles Anderson, Geneva Honeycutt, and Michael Anderson.

She is survived by her children, Debbie Hanvey, Bo Hanvey (Mary), and Susan Bowyer (Bobby); grandchildren, Nicki Murphy (Briant), Bernie Hanvey, and Jerry Bowyer (Sam); great-grandchildren, Peyton Crawford and Ayla Bowyer; siblings, Nellavee Kendall and June Bowman (Tommy); sisters-in-law, Karen Anderson, Patsy Stevens (Paul), Kitty Fowler, Amy Anderson, and Brenda Valdovinas; and a host of nieces and nephews.

An outdoor Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, May 29, 2021, 11 a.m. at Hopewell Baptist Church, 5061 Hopewell Road, New Kent, VA 23124. In lieu of flowers, please consider adoption from or donating to your local animal shelter.
