James W. Leftwich

James “Jimmy” W. Leftwich, 61, of New Kent, Virginia, ended his battle with cancer and entered into eternal rest on Feb. 26, 2021.

Always in good spirits, Jimmy fought for 17 months after his initial diagnosis. Jimmy believed, to quote Hunter S. Thompson, “Life is not a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in a well-preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out, and loudly proclaiming, “Wow, what a ride!”

Jimmy spent his entire career working with his hands as a carpenter, home builder, and fashioned beautiful pieces in his wood shop. He also enjoyed Budweiser, fishing, hunting, camping, travel, looking for fossils, gardening, cats, cooking, and entertaining.

Jimmy is survived by his fiancée, Kathryn Shafer; brothers, Chris Leftwich (Kathy), and William Leftwich (Eva); sister, Kay Leftwich Sluder (Stanley); aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and a host of life-long friends.

Due to COVID-19, a memorial service will be delayed until Saturday, May 1, 4 p.m., at Vincent Funeral Home in Providence Forge. A Grand Celebration of Life will be held immediately following at a yet to be named location. A published announcement will be made as the date becomes closer.
