Linwood Wilford Throckmorton Sr.
Linwood Wilford Throckmorton Sr., 84, of Quinton, Virginia, left his earthly home for his eternal home on Oct. 15, 2020.
Wilford was a caring husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He graduated from New Kent High School as a member of the Class of 1954. He was the co-owner of Betty’s Catering Service and a member of Black Creek Baptist Church. He and his wife worked on the electoral board for over 25 years. Wilford retired from the GM parts department after 23 years of service and then worked on the farm at Throckmorton Greenhouses until his health condition did not permit him to do so any longer. He was also a lifetime member of Black Creek Fire Department.
Wilford was preceded in death by his parents, Linwood A. and Ada Johnston Throckmorton; stepmother, Annie Martin Throckmorton; brother, Johnny Throckmorton (Sharon); sister, Joyce Martin Channell (Allen); daughter, Beth Johnston; and great-grandchildren, Madison and Henry Smorto.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Betty Ann Throckmorton; daughters, Lydia Gay Frye (Bruce) and Frances Ann Nevel (Mark); son, Linwood “Linny” Throckmorton Jr. (Donna); son-in-law, Edwin B. Johnston (Joyce); grandchildren, Devin Smorto (Aaron), Amanda Nevel, Whitney Green (David), Clara Frye, Charles Frye, and Daniel Throckmorton; great-grandchildren, Giovanni Otro, Brian Elliott, Bryson Green, Allison Frye, Savannah Smorto; and step great-grandchild, D.W. Green Jr.
The family received family and friends on Monday, Oct. 19, 2020 at Monaghan Funeral Home, 7300 Creighton Parkway, Mechanicsville, Virginia, 23111. A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Oct. 20, 2 p.m. at Black Creek Baptist Church, 6289 McClellan Road, Mechanicsville, Virginia 23111. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
