Margie Pierce Harrison

After almost 101 years of a beautiful and happy life, Margie Pierce Harrison died peacefully on August 29, 2026.
She grew up in South Boston, Virginia, attended Longwood College, and created a beautiful home at Donnybrook in New Kent, Virginia.
She loved to entertain, and her elegant hostess skills were admired and enjoyed by many. Her home was often decorated with blossoms from her lilac and peony bushes and her famous magnolias.
Margie was a faithful member of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, where during her seventy-eight years as a member she served as a Sunday school teacher, a lay Eucharistic minister, a member of the choir, the altar guild, and the Episcopal Church Women.
For many years she volunteered at Williamsburg Community Hospital and was a member of the New Kent Woman’s Club.
She possessed a deep regard for language and grammar and loved to read, play bridge, and complete the daily crossword. Even after turning 100 years old and losing some mobility, she would tackle the puzzle each morning, managing to maintain her wit and intellect.
Margie not only appreciated the many blessings in her life, but she always made everyone else feel loved and appreciated. Her kindness and gentleness will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Chapman L. Harrison; and two sisters, Jayne Thomas and Elaine Palmer.
She is survived by her daughter, Kendall Harrison Hatley (Robert); one sister, Jodye Pfister; grandchildren, Kristine Hatley Hood (Larkin), and Carter Harrison Hatley (Christina); great grandchildren, Hunter Harrison Hatley, Hudson Pierce Hatley, Lucia Nerio, Lena Hood, and Landon Hood; three great, great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
The family received friends in Richardson Hall, St. Peter’s Parish House, on Friday, September 4, 2026.
A memorial service was held at St. Peter’s Church on the 101st anniversary of her birth, Saturday, September 5, 2026.
Memorial contributions may be made to St. Peter’s Restoration Association, 8400 St. Peter’s Lane, New Kent, VA. 24124.
