Michael “Mike” A. Martinez, 70, passed away peacefully amongst family on Monday, Aug. 28, 2023, after a long illness.

Mike was born in Cuba and came to America with his mother, father, and brother at the age of six. The family set roots in the neighborhood of Oregon Hill in Richmond, Virginia. As a child, he played many sports to include baseball, basketball, and football, but he discovered later that fishing was his true calling. As a teenager, he met the love of his life, Patricia. Family and his love of fishing soon brought him to Lanexa in New Kent County, Virginia, where the family remains to this day.

He retired from Anheuser Busch Williamsburg Brewery at the age of 61 and fishing became his full-time job. He followed and fished many tournament trails to include Virginia Teams, Pro-Am, FLW, Castaway, and the local Ed Allen’s Boats and Bait tournaments.

Mike is predeceased by his father, Francisco; mother, Delia; and stepfather, Ed Farmer.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Patricia; son, Michael Jr. (Delaina); grandson, Ryan (Chelsea); granddaughter, Alexus (Alexander); great-grandsons, C.J. and Ashton; great-granddaughter, Calee; brothers, Paco and Hector (Bonnie); and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of life memorial service will be held on Friday, Sept. 8, 2023, 3 p.m. at Vincent Funeral Home, 9923 Pocahontas Trail, Providence Forge, Virginia, 23140. Casual attire is recommended.
