William Lathan ‘Bill’ Burnett passed peacefully from this life on May 30, 2013. Born in 1925 in Meadows of Dan, Va., he was a long time resident of the peninsula. This last year of his life he made his home with his daughter and son-in-law, Lynne and Dennis, in New Kent. Raymond Foster Shaffer, 80, of Barhamsville, died May 11, 2013. He served 22 years in the United States Army as a CWII Warrant Officer in the Transportation Corporation. Raymond was a veteran of the Korean Conflict earning a Silver Star and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was an atomic veteran involved in the testing of the H-Bomb in the Eniwetok Islands.
