George Merrifield Pomeroy, 82, of Providence Forge, died Jan. 23, 2013. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy B. Pomeroy; a daughter, Anne M. Phillips and her husband, Alan; two sisters, Jacqueline G. Pomeroy of Providence Forge and Beverly P. Chambers of Arkansas. Mr. Pomeroy was retired from BASF (Dow Badische) and working at Powhatan Plantation at the time of his death. Harry Byrd Kates, 75, of Providence Forge, born Oct. 31, 1937, passed away Jan. 11, 2013 after a long and courageous fight with cancer. Harry retired from Philip Morris after 33 years of service. He served in the United States Army as an M.P. from 1956-58, and was a member of Ephesus United Methodist Church in Clarksville, Va. for 60 years. Lawrence W. Christian, 95, of New Kent, passed away Dec. 29, 2012. He was the last of eight siblings. He is survived by two nephews, Jimmy Christian and his wife Edna and Claiborne Christian and his wife Rita; two nieces, Mary Townsend and her husband Van and Carolyn Manlove and her husband Dick; and many other great nieces and nephews.
